I love Kate Bush. I mean, the first time I listened to her, I thought she was a screaming, crazy harpy, but I kept listening, and then, in time, I loved her. Because her songs are incredibly lyrical and poignant. Because she dances like a eerie phantom in her early-80s videos. Because she may very well be a screaming, crazy harpy. So of course I had to make two sims inspired by her music for the latest
pixel_trade challenge.

Like most Kate Bush songs, "Cloudbusting" is based on a story. In this case, a true one. It's a song from the perspective of Peter Reich, the son of Wilhelm Reich, a weather-maker/breaker who was arrested and, legend has it, died in jail. The song focuses on Peter watching his father arrested and taken away in a black car, helpless to do anything about it. Cloud Busting is the sim I've created based on this song; he's more or less a manifestation of Peter Reich, but you can call him Cloud. ;) He's a sweet, shy kid; terribly uncertain of himself, and definitely a dreamer.

But everytime it rains / you're here in my head / like the sun coming out / ooh, i just know that something good is gonna happen...
"Wuthering Heights" is also based on a story...yes, THAT Wuthering Heights. Not my favorite book, but I love the song, mostly because of how well Kate captures the hysterical and twisted passion of Catherine Earnshaw and Heathcliff (the cad!). I always picture this song from the perspective of child-Catherine, her ghostly manifestation wailing at Heathcliff's window to be let inside. As such, Wuthering Heights is a tempermental, wild child with a vindictive streak, held captive by her unfailing lust for life.

You had a temper, like my jealousy / too hot, too greedy / how could you leave me? / when I needed to possess you? / I hated you, I loved you too...

Cloud and Wuthering as adults.
