The city grows...I'm not sure when it'll ever be finished, to be honest! But I'm enjoying it, so I suppose that's what matters most.

Today we're going to have a peek at a neighborhood in zone 3, known by most as the South Basin. The South Basin isn't posh by any means, but it isn't nearly so decrepit as the Rampart, either. It's always attracted a lot of young people and artists, most of whom are at least a little bit starving.

I'm still looking for more [profile] pixel_trade sims to stick in the hood, so if you haven't suggested any of yours to me yet, feel free!

Right now I'm working on a cathedral. It's....well, hard.

I'm still on a building/decorating spree with no end in sight, so what is there to do put post another pic spam!

The city of New Bayou has been divided up into different zones (for reasons that shall be revealed later, mwah), and these pics are of a neighborhood in zone 2 called the Rampart. The Rampart is a tough place to live. I'll say no more than that...except perhaps a thank you to [personal profile] psychosim, whose awesome buildings and hood deco helped to make the Rampart possible.

So that was the Rampart! I hope you enjoyed. I made the Slater family myself, and will have created other families to populate New Bayou, but I thought it would also be fun if the townies were [profile] pixel_trade sims, so that when I start writing the main story the extras and minor characters can all be pulled from a townie pool of PT sims (rather like [profile] bunheadbuns does for her Pixel Peak story. So if you are a member of [profile] pixel_trade and want to suggest one of your sims to me as a resident of New Bayou, please go for it! I need plenty of street people, strippers, hustlers, etc., of both genders and all races (including supernatural). Sims with Relatively non-cartoony features would probably work best, considering the look of the city. Otherwise, I'll just raid the PT community for Sims that I think would fit in.

Oh, I still don't have Photoshop, but I probably will get it, thanks to everyone's encouragement. :)

I warned you that pic-spam was coming, and now...it has come. Most of these pictures are from neighborhood view cam, as I've been spending most of my time re-deocorating Zaxis' Mayfair 'hood. In my mind this town is modeled after New Orleans, and perhaps a little of San Francisco, but I guess you can't really tell in neighborhood view because my sister look at it and said "Is that supposed to be Pittsburgh?" D: NOT what I was going for...but when I build the actual lots hopefully the New Orleans flavor will come through more strongly.

I'm going for a strong sense of realism in this hood, because I'm going to be using it for a story. I actually want to build a more bright, cartoony, maxis-ish neighborhood just to see the difference on my new computer, but that would involve figuring out how to get two separate games going, with two entirely different sets of CC. I know that some people play two differently styled games all the time, so what do you think is the best way to do it? Just swap out your "Sims 2" files by giving them different names? Or create a separate user account on the computer and re-install all the games? I'm trying to figure out what's most convenient, because I'm lazy.

Anyway, enough with the blabber, and on with the pic spam. The pics look much better on my big 1600x900 monitor than they do on this macbook, so hopefully they will look nicer to your eyes than they do to mine at the moment. :|

Minimal editing - mostly just cropping, re-sizing, and a sharpen and/or softglow here and there (I use GIMP, not Photoshop).

And more... )
