Touring the city of New Bayou

I warned you that pic-spam was coming, and now...it has come. Most of these pictures are from neighborhood view cam, as I've been spending most of my time re-deocorating Zaxis' Mayfair 'hood. In my mind this town is modeled after New Orleans, and perhaps a little of San Francisco, but I guess you can't really tell in neighborhood view because my sister look at it and said "Is that supposed to be Pittsburgh?" D: NOT what I was going for...but when I build the actual lots hopefully the New Orleans flavor will come through more strongly.
I'm going for a strong sense of realism in this hood, because I'm going to be using it for a story. I actually want to build a more bright, cartoony, maxis-ish neighborhood just to see the difference on my new computer, but that would involve figuring out how to get two separate games going, with two entirely different sets of CC. I know that some people play two differently styled games all the time, so what do you think is the best way to do it? Just swap out your "Sims 2" files by giving them different names? Or create a separate user account on the computer and re-install all the games? I'm trying to figure out what's most convenient, because I'm lazy.
Anyway, enough with the blabber, and on with the pic spam. The pics look much better on my big 1600x900 monitor than they do on this macbook, so hopefully they will look nicer to your eyes than they do to mine at the moment. :|
Minimal editing - mostly just cropping, re-sizing, and a sharpen and/or softglow here and there (I use GIMP, not Photoshop).

Industrial dock area.

And again, from a different angle.

Just off the embankment.

Back side of the city.

Train yards. Which is probably self-explanatory, but I can't help but provide commentary, it seems. Oh, see all those trees in the distance? That bright green just didn't fit, so I deleted them ALL on this side of the water and am still in the process of re-landscaping. My index finger actually hurts from clicking trees away.

Spooky island, with some actual lots on it.

See? Spooky.

River. You can see that bare hill back there that sorely needs a forest.

Another view from the docks.

Industrial living.

And yet another view from the skyline.
How about a few random pictures taken inside a lot?

Rain? Already?
If her eyes look weird, that's because they are.

This is going to be a town full of weird eyes, looks like.

Ugh, I love those trees that CuriousB/Bagfran/Eclectica turned into hood deco. LOVE!
That's all for now, but more likely to come in the near future. Should I switch to photoshop and start doing "actions" or do these look goo enough as is? Oh, and if anyone has suggestions for the easiest way to play both a realistic game and a more maxis-ish game on the same machine, please let me know in the comments. :)

Date: 2011-01-04 01:17 am (UTC)My on-lot graphics are fab, my 'hood ones not so much. I think I might have to see what settings I've got, I'd love to take pics of my hood as detailed as this.
